Gujarat Ganit Mandal (GGM) was founded in the year 1963 by Late Prof. P. C. Vaidya (1918 - 2010),who was internationally renowned for his research work in the Theory of Relativity.

Prof. U. N. Singh and Prof. A. R. Rao were also among the founder members of GGM.

GGM is a registered association (Regd. No. F-226) having permanent office at Department of Mathematics, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad.

Objective:

The objective of GGM is to promote the cause of Mathematics in Gujarat.

GGM Conferences:

The chief activity of GGM is to hold its annual conference. The annual conferences of the Mandal are held in different parts of Gujarat, in big cities and small towns; sometimes even in a corner place in the state. The idea behind this is to create awareness about mathematics all over the state and to give the benefit of the activities of GGM to the people of all parts of Gujarat. So far 54 conferences have been held in 30 different places. In 1971, the GGM conference was held in Mumbai.

The three-day program of an annual conference of GGM is a variegated feast of interesting items like - technical, popular, invited as well as memorial lectures, symposia, seminars, problem solving evening - where challenging problems are given in advance whose solutions are given by members of the audience, exhibition of mathematical models and books, reading of mathematical news, discussions on current problems of mathematics education, presentation of research papers by research students etc.

The annual conference of GGM provides a unique opportunity to the students and teachers from schools, colleges and university departments to intermingle freely and to exchange fruitful ideas. On an average about three hundred delegates attend the conference every year.

Periodicals:

GGM is also closely associated with the publication of two periodicals – Mathematics Today (ISSN: 0976 - 3228) and Suganitam (ISSN: 0971 – 6475).

Mathematics Today publishes high quality original research papers and critical survey articles of advanced level in all branches of mathematics. It is published by ‘Prof. P. C. Vaidya Sanman Nidhi Trust’, Ahmedabad.

MSuganitam is a bimonthly Gujarati magazine which publishes expository and popular articles, book reviews, reports of various activities of GGM etc. Suganitam is issued to all the members of GGM. The periodical is published by ‘Suganitam Trust’, Ahmedabad.
